"Darkness cannot overwhelm light. But light can overwhelm the dark."
Today, in my relatively small little town, people showed up--as they did all over our brave little state. They made signs, They waved. They supported one another.
They gave me hope.
We are not alone. And, we must speak up--each in our own way and in our own time. Together, we can do much. We are not helpless and not without power.
I felt this today. I went to a protest. I was shaking with nerves on my way there. I didn't have a group to go with. I was scared, seeing all the bad things that have been happening. And as I walked away from my car, thinking about turning around, I saw a group of older ladies unloading from the vehicle. And I took a deep breath, walked over and said "Hi, I'm Ashley. I don't have anyone I know here. Can I stand with you ladies?" And the next 90 minutes were truly magical. They were delighted to let me join them. We waved our flags, cheered at the cars honking and waving, pointed out all our favorite signs we could see others holding across the street. For those 90 minutes, I was not alone. I have hope in humanity again.
